High School Diploma

Academics

High School students normally attend four (4) academic years and must earn a minimum of Carnegie Credit Units to graduate with an AIS High School Diploma. One credit is awarded for the successful completion of a full-year course consisting of five hours a week at AIS.

Beginning in the 2001-2002 academic year, AIS High School students were required to take seven (7) courses each year, while the minimum requirement for graduation is twenty-four (24) credit units. A transition period beginning in academic year 2001-2002 provides continuously enrolled AIS students the opportunity to earn the required credit units to graduate with a High School Diploma. This transition is outlined below:

Students Graduating during 2004-05 and after
English 4 credits
Mathematics 3 credits
Science 3 credits
Humanities 3 credits
Modern Language 2 credits
Physical & Health Education 2 credits
Visual & Performing Arts 2 credits
Information Technology 2 credits
Electives 3 credits
Total 24 credits

Notes:

  1. All students are required to take a full-time schedule of seven (7) courses each academic year. Therefore, a student may earn 28 credits throughout high school.
  2. Transfer students at Grade 9, or above, receive one credit for each 140 successful hours of academic work at another institutions toward AIS graduation requirements.
  3. A minimum of five (5) Grade 12 or Advance Placement course credits is required.
  4. In addition to these requirements, we also have a community service requirement.
